#InspirationalWednesday: Thankfulness

For many people, gratitude is difficult when our lives are not going as we planned or wanted.

We sometimes tend to forget about the blessings that are around us, such as our loved ones; for the graciousness of the earth and its bounty; for our eternal spirit and divine guidance — for what we have right now.

“When we give thanks, we demonstrate to God that we have a grateful heart, a heart that is open to receive all His loving kindness. Even when we experience trials and tribulations, we need to share with Him that we may not necessarily be thankful for the current situation, but, because we rely and depend on Him, we can be thankful that He will comfort us and provide us with all that we need during our times of struggle. He will give us provisions during our time of lack. So consider being thankful during the tough times, but expectantly wait for God’s blessing to come through for you.” [Excerpt from Visual Prayer: How to Create a Spiritual Vision Board]

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)

How can you stay in a state of grace and gratitude?  I believe it is by acknowledging what God is blessing us with right now in addition to what He is doing in your life.

Each night, make a practice of thinking of at least five things you are grateful for in your life. Not only will you open yourself up to a grateful heart, and you will begin to think of more things that you are grateful for in your life.  Studies have shown that keeping a list of things you are grateful for, leads to a significantly greater life satisfaction.

Even if you are going through some trials in your life, thank Him for the provisions to help you successfully go through the trial knowing that He is guiding you to the right path and opportunities He has for you.

Next show gratitude to others.  It could be as simple as giving someone a smile, a compliment or sending a text or email.

If you want a truly happy holiday, choose to keep the “thanks” in Thanksgiving all year long.
