Thursday's Tip: The Wonders of Cinnamon

I’ve written before about the 3 Active Health Components of Cinnamon  found in the cinnamon bark called cinnamaldehydecinnamyl acetate, and cinnamyl alcohol, in helping Type 2 diabetes and as having antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Cinnamon can also help your health in other ways too.

  1. Cinnamon lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and raises the good cholesterol (HDL).
  2. Cinnamon can help manage the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Cinnamon has been shown to help neurons and improve motor function which can help sufferers of these two diseases continue their regular routines with far less impediment.
  3. The antiviral properties of cinnamon cannot only combat viruses like the common cold but research has shown that cinnamon extract could also help manage HIV by preventing the virus from entering cells.
  4. Studies reveal that cinnamon may also have anti-carcinogenic properties, although the research thus far is limited to animal studies. Cinnamon extract slows the growth of cancer cells and induces cancerous cell death.

Limit your use of cinnamon to 1 to 2 teaspoons per day.  Adding cinnamon to your diet can be toxic in large doses so as always make sure you contact your physician before making changes to your health and diet routine.
