It's Earth Day

Earth Week  officially started Tuesday the 22nd with the launch of Earth Day, but because of the popularity and vast importance of this event, many supporters and organizations have found interesting ways to extend this celebration to a week long event. Now after more than 20 years of consciousness about our environment and what we can do to preserve it, the first Earth Day was inspired by Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin in 1970. His push for change and preservation because of the oil spill at Santa Barbara, in California inspired more than 20 million Americans to rally in support for a healthy and sustainable environment.

Thanks to Nelson’s efforts Earth Day and earth Week is now supported in 192 countries. This annual event which is usually celebrated on April 22, is now finding a massive moment of supporters. To date, over 1 billion people and micro campaigns, such as Clean Energy, Green Buildings, and Green Cities, has helped the overall greater good to an impressive event.
The mission behind Earth Day is to make others aware that our planet is at a turning point. According to, we need to recognize that there is “a massive global migration underway now from countryside to cities” And that there will be a “huge investments in energy, water, materials, waste, food distribution, and transportation over the next 25 years.” Therefore we need to be cognizant now that there is an opportunity for each of us to become a “catalyst for dramatic change” and in doing so we can establish an environment that is free from carbon emissions and climate change.
What can you do to help? First join the good fight, and become one of the supporters of the Earth day movement. You can join on Review the website and consider what personal steps you can take to make a difference in our environment, our climate, and ultimately our lives.
