Are You Wearing Red Today?

In an effort to provide more awareness to heart disease, which is the #1 killer of women, the American Heart Association launched the National Wear Red Day in 2003 to fight against this disease. Known as the silent killer, heart disease is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined and is reported to kill an astonishing 1,100 women per day.

The mission of the National Wear Red Day movement is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. And since its inception in 2003 women and men all across the country are taking note and doing their part to improve their overall health.

More than 25 million Red Dress pins are worn to support this noteworthy cause. Those who have registered for the Go Red for Women campaign has increased to more than 1.75 million. Specifically women are being more conscious about their health in a number of ways. For example 15% have stopped smoking, 33% have developed heart health plans, 37% are losing weight, 43% are receiving regular cholesterol checkups, 50 % are exercising more, and 60% have improved their eating habits according to campaign data. All of these health improvements are reviewed in my book How to Be Schoolgirl Skinny: Eat Your Cake and Have Your Figure Too!
