This month we talk about the number 7, which represents Service.  After Love (number 6) comes using that Love to serve others.  We do that sometimes just by showing up in the best possible way we can for others, by being a good example of what it means to Love at the highest level, loving every expression of God’s creativity – people, animals, Nature – everything and everyone we see around us.

Service can happen in many ways and it doesn’t necessarily mean volunteering or giving to a charity – although those are excellent ways to serve.  Have you ever been at the grocery checkout counter, smiled at the cashier, and watched her/his face light up?  That’s service; he or she may have been having a bad day and your smile gave them the boost they needed to move out of a slump.  I always ask my waitperson’s name at a restaurant to acknowledge him or her, because that person is doing me a great service by waiting on me.  We all want to be acknowledged, we all want love, so to give that loving gesture to someone is a great gift.  Many times all it takes is to let someone know that they exist in your eyes.

Feng shui is all about shifting energy, whether it be in spaces or someone else’s energy.  We will never know where someone has been, so simply offering them an energetic “we’re in this together” gesture can shift their energy.  I think we all have been the recipient of this at some point in our lives, so we know how it feels.  And of course, the more we give, the more we get back because energy must keep flowing to be in balance. Stop the giving and you will have no room to receive.

In your spaces, the area of the Bagua that pertains to Service is located in the Travel and Helpful People gua, which is located in the front right of your space (from the front door perspective).  Being a helpful person and serving others keeps the energy flowing.  Not only can you help shift another person’s energy by being a helpful person, but you also help yourself.  What we give out always comes back to us in some way, so keep that smile on your face and try to really “see” others as a comrade on this journey of life on earth – it’s “good feng shui!”
